Start where you are, wherever could you start but where you are- Seth Godin
We all get visions, ideas set goals about things we want to start, new opportunities we would love to explore, expansions for our business, wanting to go back to school, applying for a new job especially with the new year, we write out new year resolutions among others.
However, once we have the ideas we sometimes start making up excuses on why we should hold on or put off starting sometimes cause of the fear of failure. Excuses such as “it’s not the rights time”, “I don’t have the needed skill set”, “I don’t have the funds to start”, and many more.
Honestly, you would never know if you can do it until you start and try. If you don’t start you will never get to know the level of advancements you can make/achieve.
Let me tell you a little secret, you would grow on the way, all the things you need to succeed will find you on your journey but you can’t meet or find them if you don’t start.
I have many examples I can share with you, for instance when I decided to start blogging in 2020, I was scared, I didn’t know anything about blogging. I started reading books, articles online and watching videos on Youtube about blogging and about all I needed to start. I didn’t know if people would follow my blog or enjoy the content that is put out, I didn’t know if I would get it right. I would never have found the answers to these questions if I didn’t start blogging.
I can say the after blogging for a year, I have expanded my network, joined the vibrant blogging community on Twitter, took part in the Afrobloggers ABC Winter Blogging challenge, collaborated with Afro Rep. on their Dear Africa: A letter to the land of my roots, learned a bit of digital marketing, expanded my knowledge on social media management, learned website management, and graphics design with Canva with the help of Design with Canva on YouTube and the list goes on and on.
I am still learning on the job. However, I can see my progress and one thing I know for sure is that I am not the same before I bet on myself and took the leap of faith.
I took a long blogging hiatus as I was struggling with adapting after the Covid 19 Pandemic hit, working from home, returning to work, and kicking up the Non-profit, We Ignite Lives for Greatness (WiLG), I Co-Founded with my friend, Blessing Yahaya. This year, I will be better as I will try to be consistent using a blogging calendar and scheduling.
Take that leap of faith today and start where you are. You may fail when you start but you would never be the same person you were before starting. You would have learned a lot on your journey and even from the failure. All you have to do is start again and when you do all you need to continue will find you on your journey.
If you keep waiting for everything to fall in place in perfection before you start you might never start at all and you may just miss an opportunity to start something great.
I challenge you today to START on that new project, apply for the new job, kick up on that idea you have abandoned as we journey through 2021 and a new chapter of your life with new opportunities.
Start where you are and all the things you need will find you on your journey.
Let’s keep the conversation going in the comment section. Feel free to share what you’re going to start and instances in which you started and what you have learned on the journey.
Thank you for reading.
