“Success is only meaningful and enjoyable if it feels like your own.” Michelle Obama
Many times we define ourselves by the successes of others.
We try to achieve what the other has achieved, which is not a bad thing as long as that is in line with your dreams, goals, and aspirations.
We gauge our successes by that of others and when we can’t achieve or attain their level of success, we think we have failed or are failures.
You start to put undue pressure on yourself and with this behaviour comes with stress, worries which can lead to sadness, anxiety, being unfulfilled in life, depression and in extreme cases suicide.
It’s this self-undue pressure that pushes and forces some young people to search and explore harmful alternatives means and shortcuts to success.
In the process, we forget and belittle our wins and successes. We fail to see and celebrate our wins. We forget to be grateful for our experiences and how far we have come.
We forget that we all have our different paths and journeys and can’t be defined by the success of others.
Understanding what success means to you is key as it aids you to shape your journey. It allows you to visualize your growth, enjoy your journey, set your own goals, learn from failures, and re-strategies to move forward.
When I started redefined what success meant to me. I saw my life in a brighter path. I was able to appreciate and be grateful for how far I had come. I understood that we all have different journeys and paths. I am happier and fulfilled. I know I am on the right path and I celebrate every little win.
