In celebration of the International Women’s day 2020, I took part in the March for Equality #Equalitywalk which held on March 5, 2020, organized by the Nigerian Women Trust Fund in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs with the supports from the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria and the U.S. Department of State’s Africa Bureau through the Africa Regional Democracy Fund (ARDF).

The walk was aimed at raising awareness and sensitizing the public of their roles in championing gender equality as a means to galvanize collective actions and talks that urge relevant stakeholders to actively share responsibility and contribute meaningfully to the agenda of gender equality in Nigeria.

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. #EachforEqual

The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is “I AM GENERATION EQUALITY: REALIZING WOMEN’S RIGHTS”. The theme is aligned with UN Women’s new multigenerational campaign, Generation Equality, which marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platforms for Action, the most progressive roadmap for the empowerment of women and girls, everywhere.

This year we will also be celebrating other major UN anniversaries, such as the 10th anniversary of the establishment of UN Women, among others.
